the LORD
Gen 12:8 And he (Abram) removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
What is the name of the LORD?

From H1961; (the) self Existent or eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God: - Jehovah, the Lord. Compare H3050, H3069.
The word in Hebrew is a tetragramation, which means that it has four letters, none of which are vowels. It may be pronounced Jehovah, Yehovah, and some people say Yaweh. We don’t know which one is correct. “Yehovah” fits with the name, “Yehoshua“--Yehovah Saves--Jesus.
Why didn’t they translate the word to “Yehovah“? It seems there was a problem with taking the chance that the name of Yehovah might be profaned if they wrote it on something that, in time, would deteriorate. That doesn’t serve us too well: we don’t even know how to pronounce the name that we’re supposed to proclaim.
“Yehovah” is how God’s name started out, and “the LORD” is how God’s name ended up, that is: omitted.
So, whenever you see “the LORD“ in the Old Testament, the Hebrew word should be correctly translated “Yehovah” “Thou shalt not take the name of Yehovah, thy god in vain.” It’s not a denominational fallacy, it’s the truth.
Before you conclude that I am profaning the name of the LORD, consider if maybe we've been profaning the name of Yehovah by referring to him in a generic term. Maybe we need to start thinking differently (repent).
You can look this up on the internet. Just type in the search engine, “Tetragrammation”. Check to see if what I’ve said is right.
My intention is to glorify the name of Yehoshua HaMashiach, to whom every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Yehoshua is Lord, for the glory of Yehovah, the Father.
