The Gospel Contrary to the Law
The spirit is contrary to the flesh, and the Gospel is contrary to the law.
With no translation or interpretation needed, and after a year and a half of teaching, this is the way Paul was understood:
Contrary to the Law, huh? Why would God provide salvation contrary to the law?Act 18:11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
Act 18:12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
Act 18:13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship(adore) God contrary to the law.
His Mercy?
Mat 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
Mat 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (thinking differently).
Yes, I am making the case for the Gospel. The Gospel is not that the Holy Spirit comes into you, and makes you keep the law, thereby making you worthy of Heaven. That kind of Gospel is not contrary to the law.
THE LAW
Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Eze 18:21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
The Gospel is not that the Holy Spirit comes into you and helps you to keep the law, thereby making you worthy of Heaven. That kind of gospel is not contrary to the law.
But to believe the Gospel, we need to think differently (repent).
Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
1Jn 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
So, repentance leads us to accept God's mercy, and not be burdened with the works of the law.
