The Rich Man and Lazarus

Luk 16:16 The law and the prophets [The Name of the book then was "The Law and the Prophets] were until John [the last of Old Testament Prophets]: since that time the kingdom of God is preached [time to think differently], and every man presseth into it [the desire of nations (it's such a great deal)].
Luk 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass [and they will], than one tittle of the law to fail [the law did not fail, and the law is not abolished]. [It's interesting what's next--divorce and remarriage completely out of context, unless Jesus was still talking about the law, and meant that it's adultery to divorce the law and take on another one. So, God is not unrighteous to forgive our sins.]
Luk 16:18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery. [and then he tells a parable about an unmerciful rich man who went to hell, illustrating "Blessed are the merciful, for they will obtain mercy.]
Luk 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

Jer 10:8 But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
Jer 10:9 Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.
Jer 10:10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.

Luk 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

Lev 13:43 Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the rising of the sore be white reddish in his bald head, or in his bald forehead, as the leprosy appeareth in the skin of the flesh;
Lev 13:44 He is a leprous man, he is unclean: the priest shall pronounce him utterly unclean; his plague is in his head.
Lev 13:45 And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.

Luk 16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
Luk 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luk 16:23 And in hell (Hades) he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Luk 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Luk 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
Luk 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Luk 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
Luk 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Luk 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets

[not Moses only. The Prophets foretold TheMessiah.];

let them hear them.
Luk 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
Luk 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead

[Jesus rose from the dead, and surely enough they are not persuaded].
