The subject of Adultery is a sore spot everywhere.

==========================

Let’s delete the teaching of the Roman Christian Tradition, and see if we can rebuild the doctrine of Adultery, using the scripture of the Word of God, and not the teaching of men. Will it come out the same?

Use e-sword to look it up: In KJV+, hit <ctrl + S> to search, ADULTERY <enter>. There's the list of hits. There's not very many, so this won't take long.

As we go down the list of hits, we can see that most of the references are figurative -- God’s wife, Israel committed adultery, and so did her sister, Judah.

We are looking for the literal passages. We want to know what not to do, when Yahovah says, “Thou shalt not do it”.

THE LAW, “Lo Na^'aph”--
Exo 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.H5003

Adultery H5003
נאף
na^'aph
naw-af'
A primitive root; to commit adultery; figuratively to apostatize

(Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries by James Strong, S.T.D., LL.D., 1890.)

1. The word means—well, adultery. We let the scripture define “adultery”.

2. Adultery is something that a man does with another man’s wife--
Lev 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

3. The basic poison of adultery is the wife who takes strangers instead of her husband--
Eze 16:32 But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!

It looks like the wife who takes a stranger instead of her husband, and the stranger she takes, are both guilty of adultery to the same degree.

That’s IT, other than the figurative passages.

YAHOSHUA’S TEACHING OF REPENTANCE (THINKING DIFFERENTLY)--

4. It’s adultery for a man to set his heart upon a MARRIED woman--
Mat 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery (Lo Na^'aph—a man with another man’s wife)
Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after (set his heart upon) her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

--It would be absurd to think that Jesus means to say that if any person, male or female, looks sexually, at any woman, it‘s adultery. That would mean that marriage is sin, because a man is not allowed to desire a woman.

Mat 5:28 ButG1161 IG1473 sayG3004 unto you,G5213 ThatG3754 whosoeverG3956 lookethG991 on a womanG1135 to lustG1937 after herG846 hath committed adulteryG3431 with herG846 alreadyG2235 inG1722 hisG848 heart.G2588

In the Strong’s Lexicon--
to lustG1937
ἐπιθυμέω
epithumeō
ep-ee-thoo-meh'-o
From G1909 and G2372; to set the heart upon, that is, long for (rightfully or otherwise)

Where, in the descriptive terms of the definition does it say anything about sexual thoughts? Look again.

Here are other contexts for epithumeō--
Mat 13:17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired (epithumeō) to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

Luk 15:16 And he would fain (epithumeō) have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

1Ti 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth (epithumeō) a good work.

It’s not what we’ve been taught, is it?

So, it’s not adultery for a man to desire a woman--
Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave(daw^bak) unto his wife(ishaw): and they shall be one flesh.

But, it IS adultery for a man to set his heart upon a MARRIED woman.
"Lo Naw^af"

5. A faithful wife can be plunged into adultery by her husband who divorces her for no cause.
6. A man who marries the woman who is divorced commits adultery.

Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication (harlotry), causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

7. If a man, who is divorced, marries any woman, he commits adultery.
Mar 10:11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

8. A wife who divorces her husband and remarries, commits adultery.
Mar 10:12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

RECAP
THE LAW
1. The scripture defines what is meant by “Adultery”.
2. Adultery is something that a man does with another man’s wife.
3. A wife breaks wedlock by taking strangers instead of her husband.

THE TEACHING OF REPENTANCE
4. It is adultery for a man to set his heart upon a MARRIED woman
5. A faithful wife can be plunged into adultery by her husband who divorces her for no cause.
6. A man who marries the woman who is divorced commits adultery.
7. If a man, who is divorced, marries any woman, he commits adultery.
8. A wife who divorces her husband and remarries, commits adultery.

Not included in these observations, are these other subjects:

Thinking a sexual thought,
looking at pornography,
a husband taking another wife,
premarital sex,
fornication,
harlotry . . .

So, that’s the law concerning adultery, nothing added, omitted, or assumed.

The Law of old, “Thou shalt not commit adultery”--

A man desires a particular woman,
He approaches her,
She tells him that she’s married,
“No” is not the answer he will accept,
He tosses rocks at her window,
He tells her husband he’s going to take her,
They fight, and the husband sends him away with a bloody nose.
Adultery was avoided.

BUT Yahoshua, says, Repentance--
A man sets his heart upon a woman who is married—Adultery.
Anyone divorced, remarries—Adultery.
If it doesn’t work out the first time, you’re under the Yoke of Bondage, never to marry again. If you are tempted, it’s better to pluck your eyes out than to burn in hell.
THE YOKE OF BONDAGE IS NOT THE GOSPEL.

THE GOSPEL
"Come unto me, and I will give you rest.”
Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Now, don't be going out to stone the adulterers--Love one another.

As far as divorce and remarriage goes, the evil is in the woman taking a stranger instead of her husband, not a man having too many wives.  Sorry, I didn’t write it; it’s not MY book. If you think it needs revision, talk to Yahovah about it.

In the name of Yahoshua HaMashiach, and in His Love,
